A futuristic Amazon Robotics fulfilment centre under construction
in Sydney's west will become one of the company's most advanced plants in the
southern hemisphere.
The centre is expected to be open by next Christmas and will
create more than 2200 jobs, including 700 involved in the construction of the
site.
"Just imagine that by next Christmas Amazon will be able to
undertake its fulfilments or its orders from this advanced manufacturing
plant," NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said today.

Ms Berejiklian said the centre, near "a stone's throw
away" from Sydney's second airport, will have some of the most advanced
manufacturing and robotics capacity in the country.
Amazon Australia Country Matt Furlong said the high-tech centre
will speed up delivery and increase the range of products available to
customers.
"Today marks a milestone for Amazon Australia," he said.
"In 18-months' time, the site will be home to Amazon's first
robotics fulfilment centre in the southern hemisphere."

Mr Furlong also said the site will create at least 1500 full time
jobs.
"These jobs will be cutting edge in fields like computer
science, technology and engineering; coupled with the opportunity to work
alongside advanced robotics.
"Truly, these are jobs of the future."
The centre will be the largest Amazon facility in Australia and
will be able to house up to 11 million products at a time.
It will be the sized of 22 rugby fields, and is due to be
completed next year.
